Mirsad Hadžiefendić – Biography

Mirsad Hadžiefendić (born December 6, 1969, in Tuzla) is a Bosnian artist whose practice spans painting, photography, and music. His artistic path began in the late 1980s through music and photography, gradually evolving into a dedicated engagement with painting.

He passed the entrance examination for the Department of Photography at the FAMU Academy in Prague, an experience that further shaped his visual sensibility. His painterly language was developed through close collaboration and mentorship with artists Asmir Pozdrarović Asko aand Edin Dervišević.

In 1996, he founded the “Mi Ritmo” Gallery, followed by the opening of the jazz club “Punto” in 1998—both spaces becoming important meeting points for the local cultural scene. That same year, he became a member of the artists’ associations ULUPUBiH and ULUTK.

Hadžiefendić is the recipient of the Grand Prix at the 1st Biennial of Miniature Art of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is also the founder of the association “Manufaktura,” which actively contributed to the cultural landscape for a decade before closing in 2015.

In recent years, he has led the association “Oblik” while working as an independent artist. Throughout his career, he has initiated and organized numerous cultural events of significance for Tuzla and the broader region.

He has exhibited widely in Bosnia and Herzegovina and internationally, with solo exhibitions held continuously since 1996.

Selected exhibition titles include:

Paintings, Drawings and Photographs

Defamiliarizing the Goddess

Musicians

Colored Reality

Color memory

The City Returned to the City

His current long-term project, “30 Years of Kaldrma,” reflects an ongoing exploration of memory, urban texture, and lived experience.

He lives and works in Tuzla.
