Moich Abrahams

Changing the art world with passion and perseverence

MOICH ABRAHAMS

He trained at Byam Shaw School of Art (70 -74). It was a very special place with many distinguished alumni, eg fellow classmate Jula Peyton-Jones, who later ran the Serpentine Gallery for many years. Byam Shaw School is now absorbed in Saint Martin's. Later, Moich took the second-ever MA at Goldsmiths (80 - 82). This was four years before Damian Hirst took the same course! Colleagues on that early MA Fine Art course included many now-famous artists such as Hughie O’Donoghue RA and Avis Newman. There were only 14 of us on that early Fine Art MA at Goldsmiths, as opposed to near 100 students these days; it was a great privilege to be on that course at that time and part of Goldsmiths’ early distinguished MA Fine Art history.

Moich makes paintings on canvas, paper ( acrylic and oil), and prints (mainly screen prints these days). He also has used other media (eg etchings, ceramics and film)

Moich enjoys combining spontaneity and playfulness with exploring deeper aspects of the unconscious. He is fascinated with both unwrapping the mysterious and reinventing child-like expressiveness. Central to this process is the art of ‘letting go’.

Moich is an award-winning artist and has been selected for numerous exhibitions in London, including the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Whitechapel Gallery, Camden Arts Centre, The Discerning Eye at The Mall Galleries and The British Drawing Show at Hayward Gallery. He has been featured in several magazines such as Aesthetica and Art Scribe.

In 2013, Moich was a prize winner at the Rootstein Hopkins Drawing Exhibition at the Morley Gallery. In 2016, Moich was three times an ArtSlant ( New York) prize showcase winner.

Moich has shown many times with the London Group since 1975 and was elected member in 1977. As well as continuing to exhibit with the London Group, Moich has shown with Espacio Gallery, Nolia’s Gallery in London, and selected several times to show in the Mall Gallery (The Discerning Eye Exhibitions).

Moich is in a Who's Who of British Artists and is in several distinguished public collections, such as the Ben Uri Collection ( TBA). He is also the author of the upcoming books: 'There Is Only Love ' and 'Could some of your thoughts be hurting you?'. His latest book, very recently published (November 2023) called 'Being A Nobody in Clapham Junction' is available now (certainly in the UK at least) on Amazon.co.uk. There is also a beautiful monograph of his art published circa 2014. Hopefully, more art books will follow in the future.
